When I'm not doing philosophy
My favourite place to be is at home with my three cats, Catherine the Great, Khan, and Freya, and my dog, Karl Barx (though Karl has a decided preference for walks in the autumn leaves or in deep snow over hanging around at home).
For a while back in Philadelphia, I spent a lot of my free time volunteering in cat housing at PAWS, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society. PAWS is a no-kill shelter, and it is also where I met and fell in love with the kitten now known as Freya. I was watching a lot of The Great British Bake Off and trying to replicate some of their creations (albeit gluten-free) - it's a delicious if crumbly journey - but quarantine baking was an exercise in frustration and has left me a bit sour(dough).
More recently, I've been taking some art classes at the Dundas Valley School of Art. I've done some pottery classes (much harder than it looks!) and some painting classes - folk art in the style of Maud Lewis and landscapes in the style of the Group of Seven. I also like to play video games, read, and watch tv/films - especially, science fiction and early 2000s dramas. On weekends with good weather, I like to take Karl for long walks on local trails.

My favourite creatures:
This is Karl Barx, an extremely good boy.
(NB. Karl loves wearing Halloween costumes - unlike the cats. Every Fall my undergrads vote on what he should be for Halloween. So far, he has been a lobster [2022], a bumblebee [2023], and a stegosaurus [2024].)
